World Title Fight
- England vs Hungary
Barnsley's Bridie Murphy will
compete at the International Kick-Boxing Federation (IKF) event on
June 3, in the first event of its kind to be held at the Barnsley
Premier Leisure venue - famous for hosting boxing tournaments.
Bouts being contested at the event
include the Ladies World Title fight, the British Mens title fight,
a ladies area title and two mens area titles.
In the Ladies event, Barnsley
fighter 37-year-old Bridie, will challenge the three-time ladies
champion fighter from Hungary for the World title.
Jon 'Dragon-Foot' Green,
International Kick-Boxing Champion and IKF event organiser, said:
"Kick-boxing is a fast full-contact sport with combatants using
fists and feet to overcome their opponents. This event is
going to be one of the most spectacular contests staged in the UK.
"Kick-Boxing comes from the US but
has really caught on in the UK and we have contestants travelling
from all over the country to participate at Barnsley."
Fighters will go head to head at the
contest, with bouts covering as many as 12, two-minute rounds of
furious action.
"The event is likely to generate a
lot of interest in the sport and hopefully, a lot of local interest
as Kick-Boxing returns to South Yorkshire after a 15-year absence,"
said Jon.
"There are few sports with as much
spectator appeal as Kick-Boxing. The Barnsley Metrodome is a
fantastic venue for people to enjoy this competition and to support
Bridie in her challenge."
Michael Hirst, Marketing Manager at
Barnsley Premier Leisure, said: "We are really pleased to be hosting
the IKF event at the Metrodome. The tournament looks set to
become a big international contest and signals a great return for
the sport to South Yorkshire."
English Title Fight
- Bridie vs tiffany
Two
“out of town” veterans of the Bournemouth events, Tiffany Williams
and Bridie Murphy finally clash for the British title after several
delays. This one will be an interesting battle with Bridies
aggression trying to unsettle the silky smooth skills of Tiffany.
Brighton’s Tiffany Williams
finally squared off against Rotherham’s Bridie Murphy in a British
Title clash that was overwhelmingly dominated by Williams.
Both girls have fought regularly on the Bournemouth shows so the
crowd were familiar with their profiles, but nobody thought that it
would be so one sided. Bridie Murphy’s trainer Jon Green commented,
"I have no idea what was going through her mind tonight. She trained
long and hard for this, there were no surprises out there and she
knew what she had to do - she just didn’t do it!" Not to worry. One
bad day at the office can’t take away the performances she has given
us in the past and will no doubt give again in the future.
